GRADE: 2 LENGTH: 2.3km

GETTING THERE: Apumoana starts on Windy Road, near the Windy Road/Lentil Road intersection. There is another entrance not far up Lentil Road, opposite the exit of Tukonohi and Te Pou Koropu Return.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Apumoana is a sinuous dirt highway, climbing steadily through open pine forest. Technically very simple, it is a dual-use (bike and pedestrian) trail that gains you a heap of altitude without much pain. Halfway up there is a fork, you can take the link to the much tougher climb of Sidewinder, or carry on up Apumoana.

GETTING OUT: You will exit Apumoana between the entrances of Tutaeata (Grade 5) and Hot X Buns (Grade 4). Straight ahead is the Direct Road descent (watch for riders coming up - and watch your speed going down!), and to your left is a short climb to the entrances of more Grade 4 trails, or follow the road towards more climbing on Frontal Lobotomy, or the lower sections of Eagle vs Shark, Corners,  or Little Red Riding Huck.
