TURKISH DELIGHT
GRADE: 3 LENGTH: 0.9KM
BUILT: By Rotorua Mountain Bike Club, opened in October 2008.
GETTING THERE: Most often ridden after descending Tokorangi Pa trails.
There is also an entrance opposite the waste water treatment ponds on Katore Road - most riders that use this access point have got there by climbing up Lion trail.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
It's a short steady climb in from the Katore Rd. entrance to where the Eastern Spice and Tokorangi Pa trails feed in, then mainly a descent through mature pines.
Turkish Delight crosses Soakhole track a couple of times - the junctions are well-sighted and sign-posted.
Do take care - the surface is looser volcanic soil than other trails in the area. Great in wet weather because it drains so fast, loose in dry weather because moisture doesn't hold in the soil at all and parts become like riding on marbles.
The exit gets a little steeper and rootier before delivering you onto Nursery Rd.
GETTING OUT: Exits on Nursery Rd, between Tokorangi Pa and Katore Roads). From here you're very close to Challenge block if heading back over that way or to the Waipa MTB carpark. Or you can head to the right towards the Long Mile Rd. Visitor Centre side of the forest.
