At the town end of Paradise Valley Rd is the Violet Bonnington Reserve, where a carpark serves walkers on the trail up Mount Ngongotaha.

A tract of forest that has never been logged includes a very large Rata tree. The hike around the Nature Loop is about an hour, or an extra walk can be taken up the mountain to the top on the Jubilee track.
