The Whirinaki Forest Park Mountain Bike Tracks were purpose built and weave through one of the most spectacular and interesting forests in the world - ancient, awesome, magnificent, Jurassic Park-like are some of the words used to describe this unique chunk of Aotearoa/New Zealand.

• DOC opened the first loop in August 2006. This track is designed for the eco mountain bike rider and requires a medium fitness and skill level (grade 2-3). It is 16km long and most people complete it in 2-4 hours (shorter portions of the track can also be ridden).

• In September 2009 a more challenging option was unveiled - the 35km Moerangi Trail. Full details here

  • The Whirinaki Forest Park is about 100km south east of Rotorua on State Highway 38. It is within a two hour drive of Rotorua, Taupo and Whakatane.
