Grade 4. Length 2 KM. Old school trail re-opened in 2003 by Nick Lambert - extended by RMTBC with a new quite technical section that comes out on 8 Mile Gate Road opposite String Road.
Please note: Get off 8 Mile Gate Road asap. It is a private road that is offivially closed to recreational users. And when it's busy the logging truck are fanging it!

Starts from the top of Lookout Rd on Kakapiko. Ends either right to 8 Mile Gate Rd or Left onto Dump Rd.
Not ridden so much given the opening of the Pondy loop & the 8 Mile Gate Rd closure to bikes.
Best accessed via Fern Dr to Long Dr then Sandstone Rd.
On a clear day great views over the Horohoro bluffs to Ruapehu, Green Lake, Mt Tarawera & Rainbow Mtn.
The bush up there will screen out some of these views as it matures.

Picture shows Tarawera & Green Lake from the top of Kakapiko.
RIDERS COMMENTS:
Good warm up ride up to the look out at the top from the car park. Great corners and change of direction and flow.Best track in the forest and less used by the looks. Start at top and do the humps before coming into the skid for the single track. Links into after about 5 mins of riding at the bottom.
