Grade 5. Length 3 KM Originally built in 1994 by Rotorua MTB pioneers.
Some superb work by the DH group of RMTBC - the clearing at the finish line of the trail have been cleared and leveled to remove some of the tendency to puddle - much more space now for the event village...
Starts from the top of Tawa. Ends on Pipeline.
Steep technical DH with optional big jumps and drops, fast and technical international level downhill race track.
This was the Rotorua DH venue for various nationals over the years and also the Oceanias in 2003.
During the build up to 2006 UCI MTB Worlds in Rotorua a new course was built on Mount Ngongotaha on the northern edge of Rotorua - but only for the lead-in events and the Big One.
The Taniwha is now the venue for club and national races, again.
Lots of new lines cut over the last 12 months...
Very weather proof. World class.
