Grade 2. Length 2.5KM. Built in 1995 by Fred Christensen. Starts across the bridge from Waipa carpark .

A flat flowing track that heads you into the forest. Probably the best way to start from Waipa unless you are in a hurry to head up to A Trail or Gunna Gotta etc. Ends on a skid site and entrance to Creek. Or head down forest road to Baker's Hollow and various trails.

Handles the wet weather well, will puddle in hard out rain. Regardless the best way into the forest from Waipa.

RIDERS COMMENTS:
Predominant Species
California Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) 28 yrs old

Secondary Species: Larch (Larix decidua) 102 yrs old, AlnusGlutinosa (alder)

The eastern larches are some of the original Whakarewarewa Provenance. Fantastic, though ageing and decadent, they are the conifers that lose their needles!!!
Also at the start of the track you wind through some alder, which is also an exotic.

Trivia: Alder trees don’t get their nitrogen from fertilizer or the soil, but from the air, through a process known as Nitrogen fixation. Other plants that can do this are legumes and clovers.
