GRADE: 2. LENGTH: 1.5km

BUILT: Mossy is an old school trail, Baja is an old forestry road bed, both re-instated as rideable trails around 2003 by Rick Todd.

GETTING THERE: Mossy and Baja link at different points onto the old gravel forestry road of Green Lake Rd. There is also an entrance to Mossy from beside State Highway 5, close to the Green Lake picnic area road.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trails have low traffic due to their remote location, but are loved by those who enjoy the great scenic views of Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake). Also useful for riders looking to 'put miles into their legs', as a loop around Mossy/Baja ups your day's riding time by a respectable amount.

Baja is old road bed so mostly doubletrack, with a short climb linking it from Mossy.

Mossy is mostly gentle climbing to a high point then descending, except for a very steep (but short) climb if coming up from the Green Lake side.

GETTING OUT:

You need a map and a sense of adventure or local knowledge out here - it's the farthest point from the MTB carpark and Long Mile Visitor Info Centre. The riding is not technically difficult but you don't want to be taking wrong turns and doing more riding time that you planned out here!

Please ride within your limits, and be aware that trails can change with weather and heavy use from race events effecting their difficulty. Ride Rotorua will in no way be liable for any injury or damages arising from riding any of the trails listed on the Ride Rotorua website.
