GRADE: 3  LENGTH: 1.4km

BUILT: by James Dodds and the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club, opened late October 2008.

GETTING THERE: This runs from Red Tank Rd with the entrance on the left hand side not far down from Bunny Jugs (and Be Rude Not 2)

TRAIL DESCRIPTION:

Undulating and flowing, the hardpack surface is fast rolling. Able to be ridden slowly with no difficult features. Still lots of fun to ride fast and link up the turns at warp speed.

Turn right as you enter a clearing about half way down the trail, to roll through a great sequence of berms.

(If you were to take the left hand fork when you see the clearing and berms you would be on Te Ara Puna trail which climbs to a high point then drops through a tight bermed section to a clearing and a forest road that takes you to the Duck Pond on Larch Rd.)

After the berms on Dragon's Tail there is more fast and flowy singletrack before hitting some challenging little pinch climbs into tight switchbacks towards the end.

Like most trails, this will be one that really rewards riding it a lot - as you get to know it, it just gets faster and better. Take care at the exits on to Red Tank Rd. There are several options including a couple of steep chutes that take you (very quickly) onto Red Tank Rd.

Mapping thanks to Magellan GPS NZ

GETTING OUT: Exits onto Red Tank Rd at the intersection with Larch Rd. Head out on Larch Rd to get to the 8 Mile Gate entry to the forest. Or right up Red Tank Rd. to back where you started. Or left down Red Tank Rd. to get to the main gravel road through the forest - Nursery Rd.

RIDERS COMMENTS:
Good flowing alternative to what was the best part of BRNT and good link to Nursery Rd until top half of the Rude has packed down. Link with Duck Pond is good if you're heading off to Chevy/Yellow Brick Rd direction.

Ripper trail. Flows really well with lots of popping over humps. Berm/jump/berm a real highlight. Gotta do it again and again.

Best trail in the forest? Better than B Rude Not 2? I definitely wouldn't say that. I still prefer B Rude and there are many better trails, like Hot X for example. Still fast, flowing and fun though. Let's say 3 stars.

After years of riding the tracks, even the good ones can become a little boring. B rude not 2 was good, but Dragons Tail is better. Very nice alternative, with a little bit of everything. Can be cruised over with the kids or keep you honest at warp speed. I like it!!
