GRADE: 3  LENGTH: 4km

BUILT: Originally built in 2007 by Murray Avery, in 2010 the trail was re-opened after logging operations. In 2016 there was further forestry harvesting and the trail was completely re-built by the Rotorua Trails Trust.

GETTING THERE: Accessed by the Timewarp climb from the summit of the Moerangi Road saddle.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Staying true to the nature of the trail that made it many rider's favourite back in 2007, the Rotorua Trails Trust rebuilt version retains the mellow, flowing style of the original. It is far longer though, with insightful reading of the contours by the trail builders to milk as much distance and smoothness from the terrain as possible.

Gently descending the entire length of the trail - there is little need for much pedalling input. Riders are more likely to need to take a rest to easy aching arms and their sore faces from smiling so much on the long descent!

Although many corners have a consistent sweeping bend, there is the occasional turn that is a little tighter and requires riders to feather their brakes to roll around. Just enough to keep things interesting and make sure you're paying attention.

After traversing across the western side of Moerangi Hill the trail enters a short section of forest before emerging into yet more sinewy lines of trail, wrapping around the hillside to continue dropping riders until an eventual arrival at the forested area of Pondy New trail.

GETTING OUT: The trail flows smoothly into the high point of Pondy New trail, which in turn takes you onto Rollercoaster.

Please ride within your limits, and be aware that trails can change with weather and heavy use from race events effecting their difficulty. Ride Rotorua will in no way be liable for any injury or damages arising from riding any of the trails listed on the Ride Rotorua website.

Split Enz is a fun trail during the day, but is absolutely made for night riding. I can't believe I didn't try it until now -- I'll definitely be doing it again and again. The swooping singletrack just begs to be ridden in the dark. Try it, it's a total blast.

Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears. I weep when I think of Split Enz.

Best xc track I have ever ridden awesome!! Hope entry fee of Moerangi climb remains,it would be a shame if Downhillers bus was allowed up here.

Simply divine folks, the perfect link up form Billy T to Pondy DH etc. It flows sweetly, berms are sensational, if this doesn't get you grinning, give up riding now! Full kudos to the builders! Well done!
