GRADE:  1  LENGTH: 0.4km.

BUILT: by the Rotorua MTB Club and the Department of corrections PD crews.

GETTING THERE: Across the bridge from the Waipa MTB car park and to the right.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Good warm-up and a short little loop designed for kids or those looking for a short, gentle ride.

A lot of kids love riding and ride this loop before and after riding everything else, and they can choose to ride it multiple times - we've heard of a 3 year old doing 10 laps of it in a row, they loved it so much! It's a great place to start the wee people.

GETTING OUT: The trail is like a squashed lollipop - the 'stick' is the two way out-and-back section, the 'lolly' is the one way trail loop.

IMPORTANT NOTE: from the far end of the loop part of the trail there is a very well worn trail that links onto Tahi Trail. This is labelled with bright yellow Pak n Save sponsored signs which say 'Kids Loop' (different to the official trail signage style of orange signs). These yellow Kids Loop signs take in a much larger circuit - If you head out on on this trail you will end up doing virtually all of Tahi Trail, which is a grade 2 trail and is approximately 2.5km long.

The photo below shows the signage for the long kid's loop.

If you want to do the very short little kid's loop there is another sign to the right of the one pictured above. It says 'Little Loop for Little Kids', photo below. This is the one to follow for the short 400m Grade 1 kids trail.

RIDERS COMMENTS:

We thought we were doing this trail, but we were actually doing the start of Kids loop for a few metres then Tahi. Figured it out when it started feeling like a long 400 metres. Wish I had seen this website first then I would have known there is "Kids Loop" and "Little Kids Loop" but I take full responsibility. Had a great time!

We took our girls on there first off rd bike ride, we followed all the signs that said kids loop and ended up biking for about 3 kms not what we where expecting when we thought we where doing a 0.4km loop, would have been really good if our kids where older.

Ed. Have contacted the MTB club. This is confusing and signage needs to be clearer. Thanks for the feedback.

Be warned that if you follow the signs, this ain't 0.4km no more. More like 6-8km!!!!!! Comment from Ride Rotorua. There is a sign that should point kids to the right for the shorter loop. The Kids Loop on the Yellow signs is indeed much longer
