GRADE: 5 LENGTH: 2km

BUILT: Mid 2016

GETTING THERE: From the shuttle dropoff point high on Tawa Rd. where many other great trails begin - Eagle vs Shark; Corners; Underbilly etc.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION:

Off camber, rooty, big drops - Te Rua is a solid grade 5 trail.

There are a couple of turnoffs to be aware of. The first is an old illegal trail to the left - it's signposted as such so you know not to ride it.

The second is on a high speed section so it's worth slowing (or stopping) when you see the signs so you have time to read them and make sense of them. Straight ahead will take you to the last section of Eagle vs Shark. A hard left turn will keep you on Te Rua and you'll soon be into the steeper lines and a couple of big drops.

The trail eventually joins onto the last 50m section of Eagle vs Shark to take you to the intersection of Windy and Hill Rds.

GETTING OUT: Exits at the intersection of Windy and Hill Rds. From here there are four viable choices:
1. Turn hard right, head towards Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) and have a big day of riding.
2. Take the right fork of the road (Windy Rd) which turns into Red Tank Rd and eventually delivers you to the intersection of Pipeline/Direct/Red Tank. Only one notable climb this way, and it's not very steep.
3. Take the middle fork which eventually joins up to Red Tank Rd. Or half way along it offers a turn to the left up Sidewinder.
4. Take the hard left up Hill Rd. This will get to you the bottom of Frontal Lobotomy if you're keen enough and fit enough to do it again. Many do, it's that much fun.

Please ride within your limits, and be aware that trails can change with weather and heavy use from race events effecting their difficulty. Ride Rotorua will in no way be liable for any injury or damages arising from riding any of the trails listed on the Ride Rotorua website.
